Grant-Based Utility Assistance: How It Works
Grant-based utility assistance is funded by charitable contributions, foundations, and donor giving. Unlike a loan, an approved grant does not need to be repaid by the household.
Approved aid is paid directly to the utility provider on the household's behalf — never to the household. This protects both the household and the funder, and ensures the money goes toward the intended bill.
Utility Assistance USA is an independent nonprofit project that reviews households in six approved service areas for grant-based aid. Approval depends on eligibility, documentation, and available funds.
Utility Assistance USA is independent and not affiliated with Exelon Corporation, ComEd, PECO, BGE, Delmarva Power, Atlantic City Electric, Pepco, or any utility company. Information here is educational. Assistance is grant-based, subject to eligibility and available funds, and is never guaranteed.
